A very fine architectural Regency period card table, in the Gothic taste, attractively veneered in finely burled amboyna, banded in tulipwood, strung with ebony, and decorated with gilt brass mounts.

Circa 1820.

Why it is special?
This table's restrained architectural design, together with its spectacularly figured and well patinated burl amboyna faded to a splendid golden colour, make it an increasingly rare and attractive unusual piece, wonderfully versatile, too: its shallow proportions make it ideal for a smart hall or side table, and when unfolded, it will equally successful perform its original function, or simply be an attractive centre table.

The rectangular fold-over swivel-action top, veneered in amboyna, crossbanded in tulipwood and strung with ebony, opening to reveal a burgundy baize-lined surface, over the panelled frieze, having beaded gilt brass mouldings, raised on a square and tapering arch-moulded, ebony-inlayed and gilt brass mounted column, above the quatreform base, supported by four bun feet with original concealed brass castors.

Excellent original antique condition, traditionally wax-polished, minor warp to top, glorious patina.
