Fine Regency Period Gilt Brass Mounted Rosewood Bookcase or Chiffonier, in the manner of Gillows of Lancaster

English, c. 1820

The heart-patterned gilt brass galleried shelf, above the turned and finely engraved brass columns and the original patinated mirror panel, over the well-figured rosewood veneered top, with one long central frieze drawer, above a pair of brass-grilled and pleated silk panelled doors, enclosing an adjustable shelf, and flanked by two freestanding gilt brass collared Tuscan columns, raised on four reeded bun feet.

This superb quality piece shows excellent craftsmanship and attention to detail, with finely engraved brass columns and collars and Gillows' signature mouldings and reeded feet - the features appearing on other items attributable to Gillows.

Fine antique condition, original well-patinated mirror plate.
