George III Mahogany Bachelor's Chest | peacocks-finest
top of page
A good George III period chest of small proportions, virtually identical to a design by George Hepplewhite as illustrated in his The Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer's Guide, 1788, pl. 75.

English, c. 1770

The moulded and crossbanded top and brushing slide, above the four graduated oak lined drawers largely retaining the original handles, raised on four original shaped bracket feet. Constructed in oak and pine, attractively veneered in well-figured flame mahogany.

Outstanding rich colour, grain and patina; minor historic repairs and splits to the top and sides.

For a similar example see Christie's, Important English Furniture, 15 April 1999, lot 115.
