An unusual English George III - early Regency period oval centre table, in the manner of Gillows of Lancaster and London,
Why we like it
The mahogany on the top has faded over time to a splendid golden colour, possibly the best we have ever seen on Georgian furniture. Very few pieces from that period have survived to these days in such remarkably untouched original condition, and this rare survivor not only possesses originality but also grace and style. This versatile occasional table is perfectly proportioned to make a functional centre table or a smart side or lamp table at the side of your sofa.
This distinctive design with the oval tilt-top raised on four downcurved legs, is recorded in the Gillows estimate sketchbook for 1798 for J.Hesketh, (Westminster City Archive). Top quality of construction and superb choice of timber also typical of Gillows.
Fine original condition, pleasingly faded golden colour.
