A set of six of exceptional quality lithographs with hand-coloring from A Supplement to Elwes' Monograph of the Genus Lilium, after Lilian Snelling 1933-40, on wove papers, published by A. Grove, and A.D. Cotton, London

Why we like them

Exquisitely hand-coloured, vibrant and succulent, these beautiful prints of large scale will fit perfectly into modern and classical interiors.

In 1880 Elwes produced his folio "Monograph of the Genus Lilium", which remains an authoritative work on that subject and includes nearly all of the lilies then known in cultivation. The work was illustrated with hand-coloured plates by the best available botanical artists, with each member of the genus shown full-size. Shortly before his death in 1922 Elwes had asked A. Grove, a friend and fellow lily expert, to undertake the task of producing the supplement, the first seven parts of which were published between 1933 and 1940, with 30 hand-coloured lithographed plates, all but two by Lilian Snelling (1879-1972).
