Superb George II Cuban Mahogany Open Armchair
A superb quality early George II period open armchair, of generous proportions, in dense solid Cuban mahogany, phenomenally heavy.
English, c. 1730
The shaped toprail with re-entrant corners, above the solid figured mahogany vase-shaped splat, flanked by the waisted uprights, with well-shaped 'shepherd's crook' arms, over a generously proportioned padded drop-in seat covered in old patinated green leather, within the shaped apron, raised on graceful cabriole front legs ending in pad feet, and splayed and chamfered back supports, united by a plain turned H-stretcher.
Excellent state of preservation, original surface, fantastic colour and patination.
