A superb quality gilt bronze mounted urn in breccia verde d’Egitto marble, now fitted as table lamp.
Italy, late 19th – early 20th century.
Why we like it
Rare and very decorative marble, superbly cast and chased gilt bronze mounts; a splendid table lamp.
This beautiful marble is known as Lapis Hecatontalithos, which translates from Latin (derived from Greek) as 'hundred stones' due to various inclusions of rock. Splendid columns made of this marble are in the Basilica di San Vitale, a 6th century church in Ravenna, Italy, an important surviving example of early Christian Byzantine art and architecture.
May be wired for any country. Lampshade not included.
