A fine George III Chippendale period clothes press, in finely figured faded mahogany, now converted to hanging space
English, c. 1765
Why we like it
Its architectural pediment and classical proportions lend this superb piece a remarkable presence and sturdiness. The top quality Spanish mahogany has aged to a beautiful texture and mellow, honey colour, which makes this chunky piece a pleasure to look at. Its superb quality, unusually heavy oversize swan-neck handles still retain much of their original fire-gilding and original oval backplates. Particularly good original feet.
Beautiful antique condition, superb quality, two long oak-lined drawers and two dummy-drawers above. Pediment was probably altered in the 19th century.
