Fine George III Figured Mahogany Breakfast Table
A fine George III Sheraton period centre or breakfast pedestal table, in well-figured fiddleback mahogany.
English, c. 1800
The solid fiddleback and figured mahogany rectangular tilting top with moulded edge, rounded corners and original brass catch, over a turned column raised on four finely reeded and elegantly curved generous sabre legs, terminating in original finely engraved hairy paw-shaped brass castors.
Original surfaces, outstanding deep colour and patination, striking grain to the top. Unusually made of solid dense mahogany throughout, down to the blocks and rails underneath the well-figured top, which, together with the exceptional craftsmanship suggests the best furniture-makers of the era, the likes of Gillows of Lancaster and London and etc.
Very rare in this quality and condition.
