Antique Wedgwood Porcelain Chinoiserie Tea Cup and Saucer | peacocks-finest
top of page

A very fine Wedgwood chinoiserie style porcelain tea cup and saucer,

England, circa 1900.

Why we like it

The deep, mottled ‘powder blue’ with exotic Oriental designs in gilt, is reminiscent of the Chinese porcelain of the Kangxi reign (1662–1722).

Favoured at the Qing court (1644–1911) on account of their Ming imperial connotations, glazes in deep cobalt blue were also a popular item of export.

Excellent condition with minor rubbing to gold.

Marked ‘WEDGWOOD ENGLAND’ and ‘MANUFACTURED FOR JAMES POWELL & SONS WHITEFRIARS GLASSWORKS E. C. AND 11 CONDUIT STREET W. LONDON’.
